Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, a once prominent figure in the rap industry, has been denied release on bail. Although he was acquitted of major charges such as sex trafficking and racketeering, which might have resulted in a life sentence, he was found guilty of facilitating prostitution.
Judge Arun Subramanian has currently set a sentencing date for October 3rd. However, there is a possibility that this date could be moved up, as the defense has requested an earlier sentencing at a virtual session that will be held tomorrow afternoon.
Following the verdict last week, Judge Subramanian decreed that Combs remains a threat to public safety and should stay incarcerated until his sentencing. The judge referred to significant evidence from the trial that detailed Combs’ history of violence toward former partners and employees. “The defendant cannot convincingly prove that he poses no danger,” Subramanian stated.
Unless the judge rules in favor of the defense, Combs will spend months awaiting sentencing at a notoriously understaffed and violent Brooklyn jail, where the music mogul has called home for nearly ten months. Many of Combs’ victims wrote the court pleading for the rap mogul to remain behind bars in fear for their lives and safety.
