Police in Georgia have charged a 17-year-old girl with the February murders of her mother and stepfather in Tyus, a rural community near Carrollton.
FOX 5 Atlanta reports that Sarah Grace Patrick is facing serious charges, including two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault, involving the deaths of her mother, Kristen Brock, 36, and her stepfather, James Brock, 45. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office announced that Patrick turned herself in at the county jail on Tuesday morning. This development comes months after she allegedly called 911 to report their deaths.
Previously, CrimeOnline detailed that Patrick reached out to emergency services on February 20 after her 6-year-old sister discovered the couple shot at their home located in the 1500 block of Tyus Carrollton Road. Authorities noted that while there was no evidence of forced entry, one of the home’s doors was found ajar.
“It’s difficult to understand the mindset of a young person who wishes to harm their own parents,” stated Ashley Hulsey, a representative for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, during a press briefing held on Tuesday.
“She’s 17. She’s kind of been out on her own. She’s lived with different family members and moved all over the place”
“A big takeaway from this story — a mother and stepfather will never be able to raise their children,” Hulsey continued. “I believe he was waiting on a heart transplant at some point. And to have life cut short…”
A motive for the killings is currently unknown.
