A 28-year-old man from Savoy, identified as Latroy Hodges, was taken into custody on Wednesday for possessing illegal firearms as a convicted felon. This arrest followed the execution of a search warrant linked to an investigation into an aggravated battery case involving a child.

Investigators from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division conducted a search on July 9 at a residence located in the 100 block of Sterling Court in Savoy. The search led to the discovery of two firearms and ammunition. Consequently, Hodges was arrested on charges of aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and also for an outstanding arrest warrant related to driving with a suspended license.

Hodges is currently detained at the Champaign County Jail while awaiting his initial court hearing, which is set for July 11. The investigation is still active and ongoing.

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on this incident to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 217-384-1213. Those wishing to remain anonymous can submit a tip through Crime Stoppers by calling 217-373-8477, online at 373tips.com or on the P3 Tips app.

Additionally, Crime Stoppers will pay cash rewards of $5,000 for tips that lead to an arrest in a homicide case, $2,500 for tips leading to an arrest in a felony crime involving a firearm and up to $1,000 for tips leading to the arrest of a person responsible for any other crime.

WCIA reached out to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office to see if the aggravated battery charge Hodges was arrested on was related to the ongoing investigation into the aggravated battery to a child case but did not immediately receive an immediate response.
