Multiple people struck by lightning at St. Augustine Pier: SJCFR

Fire rescue crews say one person was flown by helicopter with serious injuries, and two others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Three people have been struck by lightning at the St. Augustine Pier, according to fire rescue officials.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue (SJCFR) teams, along with the St. Augustine Fire Department, were attending the site as of 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, where they were actively providing medical treatment and evacuating individuals from the location.

Information remains scarce at this moment, but a SJCFR representative informed First Coast News that three individuals have sustained injuries. One individual was airlifted by helicopter due to serious injuries, while another was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Additionally, one person experienced non life-threatening injuries but chose not to be taken to the hospital.

St. Augustine Beach Mayor Dylan Rumrell says the pier will be closed on Saturday, and officials are asking the public to avoid the area.
