SEBRING, Fla. (WFLA) — The Humane Society of Highlands County is seeking assistance from the community after saving 31 dogs from what they described as a “hoarding situation.”

These dogs will require significant care and attention before they are ready for adoption, and the shelter reported being at full capacity even prior to taking in the rescued dogs.

“Our staff is amazing and handled this situation with a smile,” HSHC shared on Facebook. “Today, every dog received a bath and plenty of affection. No one complained about the added workload this situation brings, this is what we are here for!”

All the dogs that were rescued are small breeds, and many of the females are pregnant, HSHC said.

HSHC is asking for volunteers, donations of things like blankets and towels, and cash donations to help cover vaccines, spay and neuter procedures, and other medical treatments the dogs may need before heading to their forever homes.

It will cost around $200 per dog to get them ready for adoption, the shelter said.

HSHC said they don’t receive any money from the county and rely solely on donations to stay afloat.

You can donate to their PayPal here: Donate to the Humane Society of Highlands County, or by writing a check to Humane Society, 7421 Haywood Taylor Blvd, Sebring, 33876.

Items requested:
