The nominations for the 2025 Emmy Awards were revealed Tuesday morning, but some of the glaring omissions stood out even more than the nominees.

One of the most surprising omissions from the nominations was Selena Gomez. Despite her series Only Murders In The Building being popular, it consistently faces snubs.

Although her show on Hulu has been nominated multiple times for Outstanding Comedy Series, it wasn’t until the previous year that Selena received a nod for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

However, any hope of her winning at the 2025 ceremony was dashed when she was excluded from this year’s Outstanding Lead Actress nominees, which include Uzo Aduba (The Residence), Kristen Bell (Nobody Wants This), Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), and Jean Smart (Hacks).

This year, Only Murders In The Building secured a lead-actor nomination for Martin Short, but Steve Martin, the other key member of the lead trio, was also snubbed after receiving a nomination in 2024. 

Oscar winner Meryl Streep received plenty of buzz for joining the comedy series — in which a group of podcasting neighbors try to solve a series of murders that occur in their proximity — during its third season, but she also wasn’t able to garner an Emmy nomination.

Streep has been attracting buzz both on- and off-screen for the role, as she and Martin Short reportedly began dating after she joined the series in a supporting role.

Their chemistry in front of the camera will likely be even more palpable in the upcoming fifth season, as their characters will now be married. 

Despite the individual acting Emmy snubs, Only Murders In The Building again scored an Outstanding Comedy Series nod.

Also joining the ranks of snubbed stars are Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, both of whom lead the popular Yellowstone prequel 1923.

Although the Taylor Sheridan–helmed universe of Yellowstone spinoffs have proven to be fan favorites, they haven’t been favorites among critics. 

Although Renée Zellweger’s latest Bridget Jones sequel Mad About The Boy was released theatrically in other countries, it went straight to the Peacock streaming service in the US, meaning that she could have been eligible for Outstanding Lead Actress in a limited series/movie.

But even though the movie was a hit with critics — who seemed to prefer it over the previous entry in the series — Zellweger was left out of the conversation on Tuesday morning.

The comedian Megan Stalter has seen her profile rapidly increase due to starring in Lena Dunham’s new Netflix rom-com Too Much, but it was her scene-stealing turn in Hacks that she would have been eligible for.

Hacks series creator Paul W. Downs, who also has a supporting part on the show, was also snubbed despite Hacks being a reliable award winner. 

Another snubbed actress was Natasha Lyonne, who has attracted stellar reviews for her Peacock mystery comedy Poker Face. 

The series — which was created by Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Knives Out director Rian Johnson — is inspired by the classic mystery series Columbo and features Lyonne as a former casino employee on the run from mobsters who has an uncanny ability to tell whenever someone is lying to her.
