WASHINGTON () A protester interrupted a hearing before the House Education Committee on Tuesday on accusations of antisemitism on college campuses.

As Felix V. Matos Rodríguez, chancellor of The City University of New York, was speaking, a protester could be heard shouting “Blood on your hands” and references to Gaza. However, much of what the protester said was difficult to hear.

Rep. Burgess Owens, R-Ohio, immediately condemned the protester.

“That outburst is exactly why we are having this hearing,” he said. “This has been going on way too long. We’re going to have as many hearings as we have to dig this cancer out of our system.”

Rodríguez along with leaders from Georgetown University and the University of California, Berkeley faced questions from lawmakers over “the role of faculty, funding and ideology” in fueling antisemitism, according to the hearing notice.

Earlier this year, the House also questioned the heads of Ivy League institutions over similar concerns after widespread pro-Palestinian protests erupted across campuses over the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

President Donald Trump has vowed to investigate schools over antisemitism and also threatened to withhold funding from universities that allowed the “illegal” demonstrations. At least 60 schools have been under the microscope in recent weeks, according to the Education Department.
