Tampa Bay Buccaneers bring back iconic jersey not seen in 5 decades

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are bringing back a vintage look this season to commemorate the franchise’s 50th season.

On Wednesday, it was announced that the team will bring back its original 1976 jersey for its 50th season home game against the New York Jets on September 21.

It will mark the first time in nearly five decades the Bucs will take the field in their complete original 1976 uniform.

“The ‘76 Jersey is a significant part of Buccaneers history and honors the fans and players who have been integral to the franchise,” stated Buccaneers Chief Operating Officer Brian Ford. “As we embark on our 50th season, we’re excited to bring back The ‘76 Jersey and all its traditions. It symbolizes the ongoing narrative that began in 1976, with every Buccaneers fan, from the first to the newest, playing a role in that enduring story.”

The jersey features the iconic orange numbers with red outlines that the team only wore during its debut season.
