JSO Chief Alan Parker said officers arrived at a home on Jacksonville’s Northside late Tuesday night and found the man pulling on a woman’s hair.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On the Northside of Jacksonville, a man was fatally shot by sheriff’s officers late Tuesday night following an assault on them that led to the injury of two officers, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The officers are expected to be OK after suffering minor injuries, JSO said.

JSO Chief Alan Parker reported that officers were dispatched at approximately 11:20 p.m. to a residence on the 12500 block of Brahma Bull Circle West in response to a domestic disturbance.

Parker said when officers arrived, they busted down a door to a back bedroom of the home and found a man pulling a woman’s hair.

Parker said officers tased the man multiple times, which was enough to get the woman out of the room, but wasn’t enough to restrain the man.

The man then knocked two officers back, hurting them, Parker told First Coast News, which is when they started shooting.

Sheriff T.K. Waters described what his officers were up against.

“He stood like this after being tased again,” Waters stated. “Despite that, he managed to fight through, removed the prongs, fled, and attacked. Sadly, that’s how it concluded. It’s a regrettable outcome, and we always hope for different resolutions.”

Parker said the man was chewing on the woman’s hair that he ripped out of her head while officers tried to talk to him, and couldn’t make sense of what he was saying.

The woman along with the officers suffered minor injuries in the incident, according to JSO.
