Elizabeth Hixson (Broward County Sheriff’s Office).

A 500-pound woman from Florida, who had called the police accusing her husband of neglect by not tending to her foot bandage as he was reportedly busy “going out all day drinking,” found herself detained after she assaulted first responders trying to remove her from her home on a stretcher, authorities report.

Elizabeth Hixson, 62, allegedly reached out to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office on July 8, requesting deputies to visit her residence in West Park after her 67-year-old husband returned home intoxicated, refusing to assist her with her foot bandage. According to Hixson’s arrest report, filed by a BSO deputy and made public on Tuesday, she attacked the first responders who attempted to assist the resistant sexagenarian onto a stretcher to leave her home.

Hixson reported to officers that a physical altercation broke out between her and her husband, whose identity was kept confidential in the arrest report. “[The man] was uncooperative and simply explained that she fought him, suspecting she was experiencing mental health issues,” the report states.

Deputies spoke to both individuals, with Hixson allegedly admitting that “she grabbed [her husband’s] hair, to which he pushed her hand off to break her grip causing him to scratch her with his nails.”

“I did observe a scratch mark,” the BSO deputy wrote in the report about Hixson’s condition. Firefighters and police at the scene tried getting her to go to the hospital in handcuffs, which sparked her alleged attacks on them and medics to try and use a stretcher, police say.

“I went to handcuff her,” the deputy said. “She braced and pulled her hands towards her mouth and opened her mouth as if she was going to bite me. I then pulled my hand back, avoiding being bitten and continued to struggle while handcuffing Elizabeth. After this, I attempted to place Elizabeth on a stretcher to be transported to Memorial Regional Hospital for clearance.”

As the first responders attempted to bring Hixson out, she “struck” a firefighter and tried to “hinder his duties,” according to her arrest report. “It should be noted that a CAD query of this address since June resulted in a minimum of 30 calls for service,” the report says. “Primarily all medical calls, only this case was a call for domestic violence. A FCIC query showed no hits for warrants or protection orders.”

Hixson faces felony charges of third-degree battery, resisting an officer with violence, and battery on a firefighter. She does not have a court date listed online yet.
