BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — A Virginia man was taken into custody and faced felony charges after authorities executed a search warrant and discovered numerous illegal items.

The Bristol, Virginia, Police Department (BVPD), alongside the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police, conducted a search warrant operation on Thursday at 635 Robin Circle.

During the search, police found the following illegal items:

  • Digital scale
  • U.S. currency
  • “Distributable amount of cocaine”
  • Handgun with multiple rounds of ammunition
  • Body armor
  • Methamphetamine

The owner of the residence, a convicted felon, had a juvenile inside the home, the release said.

The announcement indicated that Austin O. Boardwine was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a firearm while possessing Schedule I/II narcotics, possession of Schedule I/II narcotics, felony child endangerment, and possession with intent to distribute Schedule I/II narcotics.

Boardwine was taken to the Abingdon facility of the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority and is being held without bond, according to the release.

“Incidents like this are a stark reminder of the challenges we face, particularly when a child’s safety is compromised due to illegal activities,” BVPD Chief D. Byron Ashbrook said. “My priority as your Chief is to ensure the Bristol, Virginia Police Department is a trusted partner to every resident. We are incredibly grateful for the support and expertise of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Holston River Drug Force in this operation. Together, we will continue to foster a community where trust is paramount and our children can thrive safely.”
