A California couple who were found dead in their home earlier this month were fatally shot by their own gun.

Raymond Boodarian, 22, is accused of killing “American Idol” music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband, Tom DeLuca, who were both 70, at their home in Encino during a burglary. After the incident, Boodarian reportedly contacted the police himself, but the couple’s bodies weren’t found until July 10, four days later, as noted by sources.

A source revealed to CBS that Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman’s remarks during a town hall meeting upset many involved in the investigation, both in his office and the police department. The comments implied that Kaye and DeLuca might have known their assailant, which the source firmly denied, stating “They did not know each other and that’s definitive.”

The Los Angeles Times reported details of two 911 calls on the day of the incident. The first call came from a neighbor, reporting an unknown individual attempting to enter the home. Approximately forty minutes later, a second call was made from inside the residence by someone claiming to witness the break-in. The caller was heard pleading, “Please don’t shoot me.”

It is unclear whether the second call was Boodarian claiming to be a resident.

It was not until four days later, when family members requested a welfare check, that Kaye and DeLuca’s bodies were discovered. Sources told People that police found blood at the front door and entered via a shattered glass sliding door at the back of the home.

DeLuca was found in the bathroom, while Kaye was in the pantry. Both had been shot in the head.

Boodarian was arrested without incident on July 15. He was charged with murder, burglary, personal discharge of a firearm, and murder while engaging in robbery.
