Williams was arrested Monday in Chicago, and is due in court Wednesday.

The shooting took place at about 9:47 p.m. in the 3000-block of South State Street on June 24.

Police said the girl was in a vehicle with family members who were involved in a verbal altercation with people inside a white SUV.

Williams, in the white SUV, threatened to shoot the vehicle the victim was in and then fired two shots at the vehicle, police said.

The girl was shot in the left thigh and transported to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was listed in fair condition.

“We were attempting to persuade her to accompany her child in the ambulance, and she reacted as any mother would when her 8-year-old is injured in such a way,” said community activist Pastor Donovan Price.

Pastor Price counseled the girl’s mother shortly after the attack.

“There comes a time when you start feeling frustrated while driving, waiting in line, at a gas station, or even shopping for groceries. Activities that are part of your routine are now turning into potentially life-threatening situations,” Pastor Price explained.
