(WSPA) – The leader of South Carolina’s public broadcasting services emphasized on Monday that endeavors to withdraw funding for public broadcasting will not hinder their commitment to offer educational materials or share significant stories from the Palmetto State.

Recently, federal legislators cast a vote to reduce $9 billion in federal financial support meant for aid initiatives and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. These reductions are anticipated to significantly affect public TV and radio stations, particularly in rural regions.

Adrienne Fairwell, president and CEO of SCETV, issued the following statement on the cuts.

“At South Carolina ETV and Public Radio, our mission is centered on service—delivering reliable content, educational tools, and meaningful narratives that highlight the voices within our state. I am grateful for the ongoing backing SCETV receives from the Governor’s Office, the South Carolina General Assembly, and members of the ETV Endowment of South Carolina.”

We remain steadfast in our mission, continuing to deliver local content created by South Carolinians for South Carolinians, supporting educational programming and classroom resources, and providing essential emergency communications and government transparency services to our state.

Together, we are creating a stronger, more informed and connected South Carolina.”
