A young woman, aged 21, was taken into custody at Miami International Airport earlier this month after allegedly making a bomb threat and attempting to separate women and children from men around her. The woman, identified as Aliyah Evans, now faces charges including a felony for falsely reporting a bomb or explosive, and a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct, according to legal documents.

As per affidavits from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the JetBlue ticket counter at around 5:51 a.m. on July 1, 2025. They were called regarding a female passenger purportedly claiming to have a bomb in her carry-on luggage.

Witnesses reported and observed the woman declaring she had a bomb in her bag, while showing her cellphone with what looked like a clock countdown on it. She allegedly demanded, “I need children and women to leave and for men to stay,” as outlined in one of the affidavits.

The female passenger — later identified as Evans — then left the carry-on bag that was supposedly carrying a bomb “on the floor in front of the counter” as she attempted to get past the other passengers in line and “make her way through Checkpoint E,” police said.

A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) manager and several agents with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) who were working in the area saw the commotion, responded to the scene and detained Evans.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived a short while later and made contact with the CBP agents and Evans, who they described as “acting erratic,” with officers pointing out that she was “yelling and screaming” as they attempted to gather basic information from her.

A bomb squad and explosives K-9 subsequently performed a search of Evans’ carry-on bag and Evans’ person and found no evidence that she had a bomb.

In addition to the bomb threat, authorities said that Evans also “knocked over various lane extenders” in the airport and “caused disruption and disarray to the area which placed travelers and employees in fear and caused delays for the time it took to take her into custody and clear her belongings.”

Evans was transported to the sheriff’s office for questioning, where she invoked her right to remain silent. She was then processed at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami.

Evans was released after posting bond of $150. She is currently scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment on July 31, records show.

Circuit Judge Ricker Wolfson also prohibited Evans from going to Miami International Airport.
