KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Rotary Club of Kingsport recognized its past, present and future through its Everyday Heroes public art sculpture.

The sculpture, according to the official Fun Fest website, was “fabricated to celebrate Everyday Heroes and those who exemplify Service Above Self.”

The celebration followed a three-year-long initiative to recognize the Rotary Club’s history.

The past was remembered through the Memorial Park kiosk, which pays tribute to veterans, while the present was celebrated with a national initiative that eventually led to the creation of the sculpture by an artist. The future of the Rotary Club was acknowledged with the publication of 5,000 copies of a children’s book focusing on the Rotary’s motto: “Service Above Self.”

“The concept is that those who go above and beyond, despite the challenges throughout life’s journey and the changes they encounter, those who endure the storms and turbulence, soar,” former Rotary Club president Deborah Daugherty stated. “They rise, and it brings light to others in the community as well, and that’s what makes our community so special.”

Daugherty said the City of Kingsport is run by a village that deserves recognition.
