MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. – A woman found herself waist deep in a waterway and was bitten by an alligator, briefly being pulled underwater on Wednesday in Martin County, as reported by the sheriff’s office.

The 27-year-old woman, accompanied by her boyfriend and their dog, had taken a boat out on the South Fork River near SW Linden Street, according to a social media post from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

The alligator bit the woman’s wrist and hand while she was in the water with the dog, pulling her under before releasing her, the post states.

The boyfriend drove the woman to the boat ramp at Charlie Leighton Park, the sheriff’s office said.

Emergency crews transported the woman to the hospital by air as a precaution, the social media post mentioned. The boyfriend and dog remained unharmed, the post also noted.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has since responded and was waiting for its trapper to locate the alligator as of around 9 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
