Lifeguards desperately tried to save the child, nine, after they got into distress.

They were rushed to a local hospital where they died.

John Lawn, the CEO of Hershey Entertainment, has issued a statement following the tragedy.

He said the child died despite the “tireless efforts” of lifeguards, first responders and medics.

“Our hearts break for this child’s and the child’s family,” he said in the statement posted online.

“We extend our deepest condolences for their loss.

“Out of respect for their privacy we will not release any personal details at this time.”

Lawn revealed Hersheypark chiefs will launch an investigation.

“The safety of our guests has always been our highest priority,” he said.

“In the coming days, we will conduct a thorough internal review and cooperate fully with the authorities.”

Lawn also had a message to families potentially visiting the theme park in the future.

“To every family who visits Hersheypark, please know this: your safety and well-being drive every decision we make,” he said.

“We will conduct a comprehensive investigation into this tragedy and remember our youngest guest by remaining dedicated to the safety of everyone at Hersheypark.”

The Boardwalk features 16 attractions, including water slides and rollercoasters.

Those who don’t enjoy rollercoasters can enjoy the lazy river attraction.

“Tonight, a nine-year-old guest was tragically lost at The Boardwalk at Hersheypark,” he said.

“As soon as our lifeguard noticed the child in distress, an immediate rescue was carried out, followed by ongoing and coordinated life-saving efforts from our team of lifeguards, on-site first responders, and medical staff.”

“The child was transported without delay to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where despite everyone’s tireless efforts, the child did not recover.

“Our hearts break for this child and the child’s family.

“We extend our deepest condolences for their loss.

“Out of respect for their privacy, we will not release any personal details at this time.

“The safety of our guests remains our top priority. In the following days, we plan to perform an extensive internal review and will fully collaborate with the authorities.”

And, the park boasts a 378,000 gallon wave pool, known as The Shore.

Revelers can enjoy food and drink at 10 locations across the park.

This year, the Boardwalk is open until September 1.

The Boardwalk opened in 2007 as part of Hersheypark’s 100 year anniversary celebrations.

The theme park was opened by Milton S. Hershey in 1907.
