SAVANNAH, Ga. () — One of Savannah’s brightest talents is coming back to her roots, not only to reunite but also to support her community. LSU basketball national champion and rapper Flau’jae Johnson is hosting her third annual back-to-school giveback weekend. This two-day event is focused on community empowerment, offering free school supplies and health screenings.

The basketball star is infusing her hometown with enthusiasm and resources, hosting activities at Enmarket Arena today and tomorrow. This year’s event extends beyond school supplies, emphasizing life-saving access to crucial health services.

Beginning today, women will have access to mobile mammogram screenings via the St. Joseph’s/Candler mobile mammography unit. These screenings aim to improve breast cancer detection in underserved areas. Tomorrow, families are invited back for the main event, offering more opportunities and support.

A give-back that will feature live music, giveaways, and a special performance by Flau’jae herself.

Flau’jae and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund will also present a donation check to St. Joseph’s/Candler to support continued health efforts.

“Flau’jae was nominated last year and actually won the award. And so, I think this is an extension of her and what she does, and what she has been doing, and now what she’s doing in her hometown community,” said Jenny Palmateer, the Chief Executive Officer for Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

The weekend kicks off Friday at Enmarket Arena with mobile mammogram screenings from 3 to 7 p.m. and the fun will continue Saturday afternoon, where students will receive free backpacks, school uniforms, and shoes – all at no cost.

Back-to-School Giveback Weekend is set to take place Friday, July 25- Saturday, July 26.

  • Free Mammograms (Fri 3–7 PM & Sat 2–5 PM)
  • Free Backpacks, Shoes & Supplies (Sat)
  • Live Music, Food & Family Fun (Sat 2–5 PM)

“Early detection saves lives. The actual survival rate for women that have cancer, where that cancer was found early, just simply skyrockets. So, this will literally improve survival rates in and around that community,” explained Palmateer.

If you’re coming for the school supplies, the screenings, or the celebration, remember that Flau’jae’s message is clear: when the community comes together, lives can be changed.
