A 50-year-old Oklahoma man has been arrested after police say he removed another shopper’s 1-year-old child from a cart inside a Tulsa Walmart.
Marshall Dixon is facing one count of kidnapping, the Tulsa Police Department said in a press release announcing the arrest.
The reported incident took place Sept. 8 at the Walmart Supercenter on Memorial Drive in Tulsa’s Burning Tree neighborhood, according to police.
Officers were called to the store shortly after 5 p.m. that Tuesday following a report of a kidnapping at the big-box retailer.
The child’s mother told investigators she was shopping with her two children when a man approached her, made brief comments about the children, and then lifted her 1-year-old out of the shopping cart.
“The man put the child in his own shopping cart and started walking away,” police said in the release.
Police said the mother immediately confronted him and recovered her child. She then took both children into a store bathroom, locked the door, and called for help.

Store employees were alerted to what happened, removed Dixon from the Walmart, and called 911, authorities said.
When officers arrived, they found “a man matching the suspect’s description” seated outside the store at a nearby bus stop, police said.
Asked about the alleged abduction, the man responded, “Yeah, I did that,” according to the Tulsa Police Department.
Dixon was subsequently arrested and booked in the Tulsa County Jail.
Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office records, however, do not currently show anyone with the defendant’s name in custody.
The case against the defendant has yet to be docketed, court records show.
