SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A vehicle drove through a cafe in Springfield early Sunday morning.

According to the Springfield Police Department, at approximately 7:45 a.m., a man in his late 60s tried to park his vehicle at Star 66 Cafe, situated at 3752 Camp Butler Rd. in Springfield. However, police reported that his foot accidentally slipped off the brake, causing him to collide with the building.

At the time of the accident, there were two young children, a woman, and a man inside, but police stated that only minor injuries such as cuts, bruises, and scrapes were sustained.

In a post to Facebook, Star 66 Cafe had said that they planned to be closed the rest of the day after the accident.

“Thankfully, everyone is okay and there are no major injuries. We will keep you all updated. Thank you all for your support during this time,” stated the cafe.

Several hours later however, Star 66 Cafe said repairs had been made and that they were able reopen later that day.

“We are profoundly grateful that no one was seriously injured and everyone walked away from this accident without any significant lasting damage, things can be replaced lives cannot! We apologize for the inconvenience of closing this morning. As of right now, though, WE ARE OPEN! Come on in and let us feed you! As always we will be open 24/7! See ya soon,” Star 66 Cafe wrote.

Sangamon County officials checked out the building after the accident. Although repairs were needed, the police department said the building is still structurally sound.
