Multiple dead, including gunman in Manhattan skyscraper shooting: sources

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (WPIX) – Authorities are responding to a report of an active shooter situation at a high-rise in Midtown Manhattan on Monday night, following information about multiple shooting victims, sources informed Nexstar’s WPIX.

At least two individuals, including a New York City police officer, lost their lives in the lobby of Blackstone, a building that hosts several major financial firms and the National Football League, as reported by a person knowledgeable about the incident to The Associated Press.

The two civilians and the off-duty officer have died, sources told WPIX.

The building was being evacuated as of 7 p.m.

At 7:13 p.m., Mayor Adams confirmed on X that an active shooter investigation was taking place in Midtown.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced on X that the shooter had been subdued: “As of now, the situation is under control and the lone shooter has been neutralized.”

The NYPD is urging pedestrians to avoid the area around East 52nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue.

An individual was taken to a local hospital in cardiac arrest, according to an EMS source.
