NFL employees were urged to ‘hide’ after an active shooter stormed into the building which includes the league’s headquarters in New York on Monday.

ESPN’s Jeff Darlington reported that an NFL security alert issued to staff members advised: ‘Remain inside. Secure your location and hide until law enforcement confirms safety. Please set phones to silent.’

On Monday evening, a gunman, armed with an assault rifle, tragically killed four individuals, including a police officer, in a daylight shooting spree in the heart of New York City, before reportedly ending his own life.

The gunman was identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura from Las Vegas, according to law enforcement sources.

According to CNN, Tamura had equipped his large weapon with a silencer when he began firing in the lobby at approximately 6:30 pm, where about 30 people were present.

The suspect was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor. The NFL offices are located on floors five through eight in the building.

Currently, no NFL employees are reported to have been harmed in the shooting. It also remains unclear whether the shooter was targeting the NFL headquarters.

In an update, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the ‘lone shooter has been neutralized’ and the scene is ‘contained.’

As the investigation continues, the New York Police Department urged the public to avoid the area of East 52 Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue in midtown Manhattan as they evacuated Blackstone.

Videos shared online showed officers in protective gear entering the building at 365 Park Avenue with their guns drawn.

Two people, a man and a woman, were also taken into custody at the scene, according to AMNY.

The woman had a cut on her head and the man allegedly said, ‘Free Palestine, I’m not the active shooter.’

It is unclear what the two individuals have been arrested for, as FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said agents are responding to the scene.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said she has been briefed on the situation, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams urged the public to ‘take proper safety precautions if you are in vicinity and do not go outside if you are near Park Avenue and East 51st Street.’
