Trump tells former Russian President to 'watch his words'

President Donald Trump issued a scathing takedown of former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev – warning he was ‘entering very dangerous territory.’

Medvedev, who has held the roles of both President and Prime Minister of Russia, cautioned earlier this week that any ultimatums issued by Trump are seen as ‘a threat and a move towards conflict.’

‘Not with Russia and Ukraine, but within his own nation,’ Medvedev cautioned, adding a sharp remark advising Trump: ‘Avoid following the Sleepy Joe path.’

The former Russian leader’s threat came after Trump called for Russia to end the war with Ukraine in 10 or 12 days in order to avoid steep tariffs.

But Trump blasted Medvedev comments in a late night post on Truth Social.

Trump responded in a midnight post on Thursday, saying, ‘Inform Medvedev, the unsuccessful ex-President of Russia who still acts like he’s in power, to choose his words carefully. He’s treading on very thin ice.’

This marked the latest rise in tensions between the U.S. and Russia, indicating a strain on the historically friendly ties between Trump and Putin.

Trump’s comments came after Russia launched a devastating attack on Kyiv overnight, which killed six people, including a six-year-old boy.

Residents were hurled out of their flats by the blast wave from the strikes, according to Ukrainian interior minister Ihor Klymenko.

Rescuers were seen carrying children from the rubble of a nine-storey building which had collapsed during the attack in the Sviatoshynskyi district of Kyiv.

Terrified residents scrambled through shattered windows to flee after a brutal assault rained down on the city using ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and lethal kamikaze drones.

According to a report, Russia fired Iskander-K cruise missiles equipped with cluster warheads at Kyiv in a calculated effort to maximise civilian deaths. Among the buildings

President Volodymyr Zelensky posted a video of the carnage and said: ‘Kyiv. Missile strike. Directly into a residential building. People under the rubble. All services are on site. Russian terrorists.’

Trump has long maintained that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine never would have happened if he were president at the time, and had vowed to restore peace to the region.

But his efforts for a ceasefire have so far fallen on deaf ears. Initially, he took a hardline approach to Ukraine, but he has since softened and admitted that Russian leader Vladimir Putin has not been reasonable during his peace talks.

Trump also directed his anger to both Russia and India, hours after he vowed to impose a 25 percent tariff on goods from India, plus an additional import tax for purchasing Russian oil.

‘I don’t care what India does with Russia,’ he wrote. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care. We have done very little business with India, their Tariffs are too high, among the highest in the World.

‘Likewise, Russia and the USA do almost no business together. Let’s keep it that way.’

But Trump’s words contradict the new tariffs he announced on Wednesday, when he said despite India being ‘a friend’ to America, the nation’s tariffs on US products ‘are far too high.’

Trump added that India buys military equipment and oil from Russia, enabling Moscow’s war in Ukraine. As a result, he intends to charge an additional ‘penalty’ starting on Friday as part of the launch of his administration’s revised tariffs on multiple countries.

Trump told reporters on Wednesday the two countries were still in the middle of negotiations on trade despite the tariffs slated to begin in a few days.

‘We’re talking to India now,’ the president said. ‘We’ll see what happens.’

The Indian government said Wednesday it’s studying the implications of Trump’s tariffs announcement.

India and the US have been engaged in negotiations on concluding a ‘fair, balanced and mutually beneficial’ bilateral trade agreement over the last few months, and New Delhi remains committed to that objective, India’s Trade Ministry said in a statement.
