‘Slenderman’ Stabber To Be Released From Psych Ward a Decade After Nearly Killing Classmate

A judge in Wisconsin has given permission for one of the girls involved in the notorious 2014 Slender Man stabbing to be transferred from a state mental health hospital, where she has been held since age 12, to a new facility that will offer her more freedom.

Morgan Geyser, now 22, will still be in custody and will be monitored by GPS at the new facility in Sun Prairie, WISN reported.

Back in 2014, Geyser and Anissa Weier stabbed a classmate 19 times, almost causing her death, in an attempt to satisfy the fictional “Slender Man” from an internet meme, according to CrimeOnline.

Both girls were acquitted on grounds of mental illness or defect. While Weier was discharged from a mental hospital in 2021, Geyser has continued to be detained despite four prior attempts for release.

Earlier this year, a judge agreed to her conditional release, but this decision was contested by the Department of Health Services. The challenge was rejected in April, and Judge Scott Wagner officially sanctioned the release this month. The judge confirmed the decision to place Geyser at the Sun Prairie facility during a hearing on Thursday morning, as reported by WISN.

“The DHS has found a great spot for Morgan. So it was a very substantive hearing and a good result for her,” her attorney, Anthony Cotton, said.

Kathleen McDaniel, Sun Prairie’s city attorney, opposed the choice of this facility. She expressed concern that residents might be disturbed at the prospect of seeing Geyser outdoors due to the case’s infamous nature.

But Wagner disagreed.

The judge remarked, “I believe this plan strikes a good balance among all the concerns, and although it took some time to reach this conclusion, I am approving it, and we will proceed accordingly.”

Cotton was pleased with the decision.

“I think what everybody wants is that she will readjust to society,” he said. “She’s been in custody for 10 years now. I mean, imagine being 12 years old and now in your early 20s and you’ve never left confinement. It’s horrible. So this facility really will allow her to grow as a person and I think be as a safer and better member of the community.”

The transfer is expected to take place next week.
