SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Saturday brought a round of storms across a lot of the Coastal Empire & Lowcountry.

The main effect of the heavy rain led to numerous reports of stalled and submerged vehicles throughout Chatham County. A flash flood warning was issued in Savannah, effective from approximately 5 to 7 PM.

The remaining storms are expected to transition into light to moderate rain, with occasional thunder, as the night unfolds. The rain is anticipated to taper off as the night goes on.

Sunday Forecast

Sunday’s weather will start off mildly, with temperatures beginning in the low to mid-70s. Being on the cooler side of the front, with winds coming from the northeast, will keep the day’s high temperatures several degrees below the normal range.

Much of the area is likely to experience another round of rain and storms. These storms may bring intense rainfall, frequent lightning, and possibly strong wind gusts. It’s important to stay aware of the weather, but it’s not expected to rain all day.

Looking Ahead

Monday will start off cool, with northeasterly winds bringing in mild air. Some sunshine is expected to emerge, and there will be the usual chance of afternoon storms.

The rest of the week will feature a slow return to near-average temperatures and daily storm chances. No extreme heat is expected for the workweek!

Tropics

The tropics feature an area of low pressure developing off the Carolina Coast. The system is moving eastward and will pull away from our area.

Increased offshore winds combined with wave activity will result in marine concerns and potential beach hazards like rip currents and rough surf over the coming days.

A tropical wave moving off the coast of Africa the next couple of days has a 20% chance of developing.

This system is very far from the United States so there is a lot of time to track it. The environment continues to feature dry air and Saharan Dust which will limit this system for a while.

Tropical waves will continue to moisten up the environment and signals are pointing to hurricane season waking up by the middle of the month.
