(The Hill) — A former teleprompter operator for President Donald Trump who placed bets tied to the president’s speeches is no longer employed by the federal government.

A White House official confirmed to The Hill on Tuesday that Gabriel Perez is no longer working in a government role.

The development follows an announcement earlier this month from Kalshi, a prediction market platform, which said it had alerted federal regulators to suspicious trading activity involving Trump’s speeches that was connected to Perez.

ABC News reported that Perez had entered settlement discussions with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, or CFTC, over allegations that he used nonpublic information about the president’s planned remarks to make wagers on Kalshi.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt previously said Perez was placed on administrative leave after the reports surfaced.

“The individual that was cited in that report is complying with the CFTC and has been placed on administrative leave,” Leavitt said last week.

Leavitt said Trump had been made aware of the situation, which surfaced hours before a primetime address from the president.

“He believes it is deeply unfortunate and, frankly, a disgrace,” she said.

Perez had worked for Trump since 2016.
