The Florida Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has pinpointed Pinellas County and Hillsborough County for upcoming audits and on-site evaluations, as reported by WFLA in Tampa, Fla.

Both counties confirmed receiving letters recently, which requested entry to their “physical premises, data systems, and responsive personnel.”

According to the letters from DOGE advisors, “Citizens of Florida, having empowered their governments to levy taxes, deserve to see these funds used responsibly and for essential programs. Governor DeSantis has tasked us with uncovering and reporting excessive spending at the county and municipal levels, a mission that Floridians have welcomed with enthusiasm.”

Regarding the aforementioned letter, Hillsborough County Administrator Bonnie Wise gave the following statement:

“Hillsborough County agrees with the figures presented in the EOG DOGE request cover letter. On April 2, 2025, a resolution was passed by the Board of County Commissioners to fully and transparently engage in the process outlined by Executive Order #25-44 initiated by the EOG DOGE Team.”

Wise stated, “The County is eager to collaborate with the EOG DOGE Team and discuss how strategic investments in public safety, transportation, and infrastructure projects have been made since Fiscal Year 2019.”

The audit for Pinellas County will take place Aug. 7–8, and the one for Hillsborough County will be Aug. 11–12.
