CHICAGO (WCIA) – Chris Tamas is getting ready for his ninth season with the Illini in 2025.

Tamas has led Illinois to a 149-94 record through eight years in charge of the program.

During the Big Ten Media Days in Chicago on Monday, the focus for the UI head coach was primarily on how to fill the gaps left by the 2024 season. A key point of discussion was the departure of Illinois graduate and All-American, Raina Terry.

However, Tamas is hopeful for his 2025 squad.

“While on paper it might seem like a substantial loss,” Tamas stated, “I believe the opportunity and challenge lie in replicating our efforts. We’ve succeeded in this for several years, and we’re eager to continue that tradition moving forward.”

Half of the 2025 roster is new to Illinois, comprised of six freshmen and three transfers.

“Quote here,” Tamas said.

Illinois is set to kick off its 2025 season on August 29 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where they will face South Dakota State. The Illini concluded their 2024 season with a first-round NCAA Tournament loss to Northern Iowa.
