New details have been released by police today as they delve deeper into the investigation of the tragic stabbing of a 14-year-old girl in NSW, allegedly committed by another teenager.
A 13-year-old girl has been taken into custody in connection with the incident, as detectives work to determine if both of the juveniles were visiting from abroad.
Emergency services responded to Euston Close, Edgeworth, around 10.20 pm last night, after receiving reports regarding the stabbing.
A crime scene was set up by officers, to be meticulously examined by specialist forensic teams today.
A kitchen knife discovered at the scene has been collected for forensic analysis.
Strike Force Aggnes has been formed to lead the investigation, with support from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
Neighbours told 9News the street in Newcastle’s western suburbs was usually a quite, peaceful place, and they were shocked by the death.
“It’s such a quiet street and we never have any any problems here. And everyone just goes about their daily business,” one said.
