14-year-old Trevor Lee was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder after deputies said he shot and killed his parents Monday.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla — Clay County Sheriff’s deputies shared new developments concerning a shocking murder in Middleburg on Tuesday. They revealed that 14-year-old Trevor Lee confessed during a 911 call to shooting his parents on Monday morning.

On Tuesday afternoon, deputies released the audio of Lee’s 911 call, his mugshot, and a report detailing his arrest. The content of the call is heavily censored because the murder investigation is still active.

Trevor Lee faces charges of two counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of his parents. According to Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook, Lee contacted 911 just after midnight on Monday, admitting to the shootings at their Middleburg residence, and then went to a local church.

In the call, Lee mentions to the 911 operator that he discarded his backpack, emptied his pockets, and was waiting for law enforcement in the center of the church because he felt the need to pray.

He then asks the 911 operator to pray for him.

“I will definitely be praying for you, son,” the 911 operator is heard saying in response.

The conversation between the 911 operator and Lee continues for about 10 minutes, with most of it obscured due to the investigation. The operator instructs Lee to explain the situation to the officers arriving on the scene.

Lee informs the operator that he attempted to flag down a police car to report the incident. The operator advises Lee that officers are nearby and instructs him to keep his hands visible.

A sheriff’s deputy is then heard approaching Lee, taking him into custody.

Deputies arrived at Lee’s Middleburg home shortly after the call was placed. Inside, they found a man and woman, identified as 44-year-old David Lee and 45-year-old Brandi Smith, both dead from gunshot wounds.

The police report released by deputies Tuesday said deputies found David Lee and Smith in their bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds, finding several spent shell casings in the room.

The sheriff said their preliminary investigation has found the shooting stemmed from an argument the teen had with his parents Sunday night. Cook said Lee appears to have shot his parents with their gun, leaving it at the scene.

The police report said Lee was taken into custody at Cross Pointe Church on Fleming Island around 3:48 a.m. Monday.

“We do want to extend our deepest sympathies to the family, the friends, and all of those who are affected by this heartbreaking incident,” Cook said. “We would like to ask anyone in the community that may have some information on Trevor Lee or his parents to please reach out to us at (904) 264-6512.”

Cook said investigators are currently looking into Trevor Lee’s history of mental health and school.
