Amazon makes things right after flooding Riverview couple with soap shipments

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Rose and Louis Bostick can finally come home without fear of finding a 500-pound pallet of dish soap blocking their driveway.

The Bosticks turned to the Better Call Behnken team for assistance when their attempt to close their Amazon seller account spiraled into chaos, resulting in a flood of dish soap being sent to their home each day.

After Shannon Behnken, a Consumer Investigator, contacted Amazon about the dilemma, the company intervened, reached out to the couple with an apology, stopped the shipments, and refunded them the substantial shipping fees they had incurred for the unwanted soap.

“You put a fire in their boot, and they just made everything right,” Rose Bostick said.

Previously, the Bosticks operated a modest third-party seller venture on Amazon, dealing in books and certain household goods. When they opted to wind down their business last year, they anticipated a smooth process, but were instead inundated with countless bottles of soap that unexpectedly began arriving at their doorstep.

According to the couple, Amazon initially promised to return the goods in their inventory before closing the account. However, Rose Bostick clarified that this particular dish soap was never part of their stock. She noted they only ever had about 50 bottles, far fewer than the thousands they were being sent.

She said some boxes contain one bottle, and other boxes contain 50 bottles.

“We’ve been distributing soap to relatives, friends, neighbors, my coworkers,” shared Rose Bostick when she reached out to Behnken in July. “Even they are saying no more, as they now have enough to last for quite some time.”

Consumer Investigator Shannon Behnken reached out to Amazon in July and received this statement:

“We appreciate WFLA for highlighting this problem. We have contacted the customer to extend our apologies and are committed to resolving the issue as swiftly as we can.”

Rose Bostick said she’s thankful Amazon kept their word and fixed this problem. Now that this is over, she said she’ll likely once again shop at Amazon, but not for soap.
