Trump-Putin summit could happen as soon as next week

A summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Trump could be happening as soon as next week.

Fox News learned from two insiders that plans for a summit are underway, potentially as soon as this upcoming Monday, with Rome being a considered location.

The meeting’s fate is uncertain, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has communicated to the U.S. that he will not relinquish any territory in any peace agreement with Russia, a decision that only the Ukrainian parliament has the authority to make.

A prospective meeting between Putin and Trump would mark their first encounter since Trump reassumed the presidency this year. This would signify an important event amid the ongoing 3-year conflict, though a resolution remains uncertain due to the substantial differences between Russia and Ukraine’s requirements.

Trump, addressing inquiries from reporters later at the White House, refrained from confirming a specific venue for the meeting, but noted there is “a very good prospect” that he, Putin, and Zelenskyy will gather.

The president declined to predict how close he was to reaching a deal to end the fighting, saying, “I’ve been disappointed before with this one.”
