ICE arrests illegal immigrant charged with child sex crimes after his release by local police despite detainer

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials apprehended an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala shortly after his release by Rhode Island officials, despite facing numerous child sex-related charges and having an existing ICE detainer.

Josue Santiago Perez Gomez, residing unlawfully in the U.S., was accused of engaging a minor in commercial sexual acts, inappropriate solicitation of a child, and paying for sexual activities, as reported by ICE.

Perez Gomez was taken into custody by the Portsmouth Police Department on July 12 on these allegations. ICE Boston promptly lodged an immigration detainer, but the police neglected to abide by it, leading to Perez Gomez’s release just hours later, according to an ICE statement.

Portsmouth police did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

It is unclear when Perez Gomez illegally entered the U.S. or where he crossed the border.

He was not inspected, admitted or paroled by a U.S. immigration official, according to ICE.
