AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Richmond County Board of Education has chosen Dr. Malinda Cobb as the new superintendent for the Richmond County School System, starting on August 13, 2025.

Cobb secured her position as superintendent following a committee vote of 6-4 on Tuesday, August 12, where she received more support than her counterpart, Dr. Keith Simmons. Since January 1, Cobb has served as the interim superintendent, succeeding Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw, who retired after a five-year tenure.

The RCBOE highlights Cobb’s extensive experience over more than two decades in the school system. She began her career as a teacher at T.W. Josey Comprehensive High School, advanced to become the principal at Goshen Elementary, and later at the Academy of Richmond County.

“When discussing our goals and future direction, it was crucial to choose a leader familiar with our system and part of our community,” stated Shawanda Stovall, Richmond County School Board President. “Dr. Cobb exemplifies this community connection. Her journey from starting as a teacher, rising to a principal, progressing to senior administration, to now being our Superintendent, serves as an inspiration to teachers, families, and students that advancement is possible within this school system.”

Cobb is expected to be sworn in at a later date.
