Gotcha: Another Nail Just Got Hammered in Bogus 'D.C. Crime Is Down!' Talking Point

Democrats are often criticized not only for self-deception but also for frequently misleading the American public with exaggerated claims.

Consider the “Defund the Police” movement, closely associated with the Black Lives Matter organization, which gained significant attention during the summer and fall of 2020 amid the George Floyd protests. Despite ultimately being a setback for House Democrats in that year’s elections, there was an amusing yet coordinated attempt by mainstream media and left-leaning figures to claim that certain lawmakers were unjustly linked to the movement.

Even more surprisingly, some contended that defunding the police didn’t mean literally withdrawing funds, though these claims were undermined whenever progressive legislators like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) would candidly remind audiences that “defund the police” was indeed intended to be taken at face value.
