Small plane crashes while landing at Ohio airport

(WJW) State troopers and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating after a small plane crashed while landing at the Sandusky County Regional Airport on Tuesday evening.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 5:36 p.m. local time.

Investigators said the 2021 Hatz Bantam biplane was heading southwest to land on the southern runway when the pilot’s right front landing gear reportedly collapsed.

The pilot, a 78-year-old Ohio man, wasn’t injured. Investigators said he was wearing his seatbelt harness and eye goggles at the time.

According to OSHP, no fuel or hazardous materials were spilled during the crash.

Investigators do not believe impairment was involved in the crash.

The National Traffic Safety Board is also helping with the ongoing investigation.
