JENKINS COUNTY, Ga. () – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation took a Perkins man into custody on Tuesday following reports made to the Jenkins County Sheriff’s office the prior week.
Wayne Leo Chance, aged 51, is facing charges that include one count of Disorderly Conduct, four counts of Terroristic Threats, and one count of Impersonating a Police Officer. Chance was apprehended on August 12, 2025, after he voluntarily presented himself at the Jenkins County Jail.
The Jenkins County Sheriff’s Office noted that Chance was formerly employed there, which led to the GBI taking over the investigation.
The GBI stated in an Aug. 13 press release that Chance allegedly confronted four people riding ATVs on a county-maintained road.
“During the event, Chance was operating a civilian car outfitted with active construction-style warning lights,” the statement mentions. “He allegedly posed as a police officer and issued violent threats to the group present.”
Once the investigation is complete, the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office will prosecute the case.
