UPDATE: Authorities from the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, the Commonwealth’s Attorney, and the State Police have announced that a suspect has been apprehended after firing at deputies. The officers had been dispatched to a residence in the Pittsville area to deliver a warrant.

Sheriff Mike Taylor reported that three deputies had arrived to serve a warrant and protective order at a house on Blue Jay Lane. The deputies were greeted with gunfire upon arrival, prompting them to summon additional support. While two deputies sustained shrapnel injuries, one was transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution, Sheriff Taylor noted.

Law enforcement agencies from across the region responded to the situation. Officials have identified the suspect as James Andreu Lehnerd, who eventually surrendered and exited the property voluntarily, according to State Police spokesperson, Sgt. Rick Garletts.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Haskins said the suspect is likely facing serious charges, though those are still being determined.
