This is the shocking moment a wanted man was caught hiding in a hot tub by a police sniffer dog.

The criminal, who had strategically sheltered in the tub, even stripped down naked in a desperate bid to flee from officers.

However, both the pile of clothes and bright white shoes left directly outside of the tub were somewhat of a giveaway.

Even though he tried hard to stay hidden underwater, police dog Luna managed to guide her handler to the fugitive’s location after picking up the scent from discarded clothes.

The clever animal then rested her head on the lid of the hot tub, where the bizarre discovery was made.

Footage from a body camera showed the surprising moment a Cumbria Police Officer discovered the man in the water and remarked, ‘I’ve found a person hiding in a hot tub; we need to identify him.’

Speaking to other officers via a radio, he asked: ‘Did anyone happen to notice his footwear on CCTV?’

Realizing that his cover was blown, the man finally emerged and introduced himself, prompting the officer to ask, ‘Hello there, who are you? Are you the one we’re looking for?’

This surprising event showcases a wanted individual caught hiding in a hot tub by a police sniffer dog. The suspect had gone so far as to undress to escape the authorities.

Despite his best efforts at holding his breath, police dog Luna led her handler straight to the fugitive after identifying his scent on the discarded outfit. The clever animal then rested her head on the lid of the hot tub, where the bizarre discovery was made

Despite his attempts to stay submerged and unnoticed, Luna the police dog detected his scent on the abandoned clothing. She then calmly placed her head on the hot tub’s cover, leading to the unusual discovery.

Body cam footage captured by a puzzled Cumbria Police Officer revealed the moment the man was eventually found in the water, with the officer announcing: 'I've got a chap hiding in a hot tub, we need to find out who he is'

The body cam video from a baffled Cumbria Police Officer showed the man being found in the water, with the officer commenting, ‘I’ve found someone hiding in a hot tub; we need to figure out his identity.’

Several officers were then captured holding onto the man’s arms as they attempted to pull him from the water as the officer declared: ‘He’s hiding under the water of the hot tub.

‘To cut a long story short, he ran out of breath when the dog was looking for him.’

In response to the video, one social media user praised the criminal’s unique hiding technique as ‘genius’, adding: ‘great work canine’.

Meanwhile, another spoke highly of the police dog’s ability to catch the concealed criminal, adding: ‘Well done PD Luna’.

Police confirmed that the fugitive was later convicted of several offences that included dangerous driving and disqualified driving.

He appeared at Barrow-in-Furness magistrates court on April 4, following his arrest on February 8.

The criminal was jailed for a year and disqualified from driving for five years, five months and 28 days. He also received a fine of £787.

A spokesperson for the force said: ‘PD Luna successfully found a man who was hiding in a hot tub.

In 2020, a criminal tried to hide in a jacuzzi after leading police on a terrifying 80mph chase the wrong day down a dual carriageway.

Jay Hursham, 23, clambered into the hot tub as armed cops tracked him down to a family’s back garden following his role in a machete attack.

A police helicopter’s thermal camera shows Hursham being hauled out of the jacuzzi as officers train their rifles on him.

He was one of three people who were caught on camera leading officers on a high-speed chase the wrong way down the A127 near Brentwood, Essex, causing lorries and cars to swerve to avoid a collision.

The trio had attacked a man in his 20s hours earlier, leaving him with life-changing injuries in South Ockendon just after midnight on July 1, 2020.

Traffic police shunted into the car, bringing it to a halt in a residential area of Upminster, East London.

The driver, Dulieu, was arrested in the car, while Mwalim was detained after a short foot chase.

Hursham made off over residents’ fences and through their gardens before trying to hide inside a hot tub.

Armed officers, guided by a police helicopter, surrounded the hot tub and pulled Hursham out where he was arrested while covered in blood.

Following a trial on December 20 last year, Hursham and Mwalim were convicted of attempted murder, while Dulieu was found guilty of GBH with intent.
