Zachary N. Miller, 24, has been charged with four counts of animal cruelty after the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee discovered “multiple” dead animals on a property located on Cash Hollow Road.

According to a news release from the WCSO, deputies responded to the 400 block of Cash Hollow Road on Sunday.

Upon arrival, deputies reportedly smelled decaying animals near a barn on the property.

Dead animals, including a pig, two domesticated rabbits and 10 chickens, were found by deputies, the release stated.

The sheriff’s office stated, “Miller claimed a raccoon was responsible for the death of 10 chickens.” Deputies found decaying chickens inside feed bags at the barn. An agent from the Department of Agriculture also inspected the site and confirmed that the deceased rabbits were domestic rabbits.

The sheriff’s office noted, “A dog, which was chained outside the barn, lacked access to clean water.” The water source identified by Miller was a bucket filled with algae and worms, deemed unsuitable for the dog.

Miller reportedly surrendered the dog to animal control.

The sheriff’s office reported that Miller is out on a $5,000 bond and is set to appear in court Monday.

Additional charges from the Department of Agriculture are pending due to Miller not disposing of dead livestock, the WCSO stated.
