The head of Seattle’s Police Department was reportedly just a short distance from a jewelry shop when it was looted in broad daylight on Thursday. The thieves made off with an estimated $2 million in valuables, including diamonds, gold, and luxury watches.

On that day, four masked individuals carried out the theft at Menashe & Sons Jewelers located in West Seattle. They threatened the staff with bear spray and a stun gun after smashing the glass front door with a hammer, then proceeded to steal from six display cases inside the shop.

Interestingly, while the burglary was happening, Seattle’s Police Chief, Shon Barnes, was having lunch only a few yards away. This detail was shared by a police source with The Jason Rantz Show on Seattle’s Red 770 AM.

A representative for the Seattle Police confirmed to The Jason Rantz Show that the chief was indeed nearby at the time, but couldn’t specify his exact location during the robbery.

The police chief was unaware of the ongoing robbery until his security team noticed police vehicles arriving with lights flashing and sirens blaring, as reported by The Jason Rantz Show.

He added that there was “a lot of shock and surprise” because of the robbery, leading to the gym locking the doors until police arrived.

The suspects escaped in a getaway car before police arrived at noon. No arrests have been made yet.

No one was hurt during the robbery.

Seattle police are asking anyone with information to call 206-233-5000.
