Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, did not appear in court for his arraignment in connection with an alleged Fourth of July weekend hit-and-run crash, with his attorney appearing before the judge on his behalf.
The case was called Friday in a Napa County courtroom. Pelosi was charged in July with one misdemeanor count of hit-and-run driving, along with an infraction for an unlawful turning movement.
His attorney entered a not guilty plea for him.
Photos obtained by The California Post showed a severely damaged Tesla that Pelosi is accused of striking with his brown convertible before leaving the scene on July 3.
Napa County sheriff’s deputies were called at about 2:30 p.m. to the 6700 block of Yount Street in Yountville after a witness reported seeing a northbound vehicle rear-end a parked car, forcing its right tire onto the curb. According to the witness, the driver stopped briefly, then drove away.
Deputies later located Pelosi in his heavily damaged convertible, which was partially blocking Yountville Cross Road. Pelosi told investigators he realized he had hit something but did not know what it was, and continued driving until his vehicle became disabled.
Authorities said alcohol was ruled out after a preliminary screening registered Pelosi’s blood-alcohol level at 0.00.
“Mr. Paul Pelosi has personally apologized to the owner of the vehicle and assured them that he would take responsibility for the damage to their vehicle,” a spokesperson for Pelosi and his wife, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, told The California Post after the crash.
The incident came four years after Pelosi was arrested for DUI following a May 2022 crash in Napa County. He had been driving home from a dinner in Oakville when his Porsche collided with another vehicle.
