News footage of location in Houston, Texas, where a man was shot by an unknown assailant on Aug. 16, 2025 (KHOU).
A Texas man was shot and killed moments after he spoke to his girlfriend on FaceTime — and she may have heard him chatting with his alleged killer.
The Houston Police Department informed the local CBS station KHOU that a young man in his 20s was shot and killed around 9 p.m. on a Saturday night. Officials reported that he was on a phone call with his girlfriend while waiting at a bus stop near East 34th Street and North Main Street in the Houston area known as Independence Heights.
During their FaceTime conversation, a stranger approached him and the two started talking amiably, as described by his girlfriend. Suddenly, the young man began to run, and the call abruptly ended.
According to the local ABC station KTRK, after their call got disconnected, the girlfriend alerted the police, fearing for her boyfriend’s safety. She managed to track the location via his phone, according to the police.
The police noted that the woman located her boyfriend’s phone first and soon discovered his body in a nearby grassy area. He succumbed to his injuries before emergency services could arrive.
While the authorities have not identified the man or his girlfriend, they are appealing to the public for assistance in solving the case. They mentioned that the victim had recently started working at Houston’s historic Jackson’s Barbershop, situated in the neighborhood where the incident occurred. Staff at Jackson’s Barbershop confirmed his employment and expressed positive sentiments about him.
The Houston Police Department is urging anyone with information about the shooting to reach out to them or contact Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
