The most anticipated high school football match in Georgia this week will take place at Memorial Stadium in Savannah, dubbed the Hostess City. Benedictine is set to play against Buford in Week 2 of the season.

The Cadets, holding the No. 2 spot in Class AAAA, are currently 0-1 after a recent defeat against Colquitt County, who are ranked No. 9 in Class AAAAAA. According to Benedictine’s head coach, Danny Britt, the team lost due to a slew of reckless penalties that they committed during the game.

Buford is 1-0 and ranked No. 2 in Class AAAAAA. They defeated Milton, 20-13, in a Week 1 game televised on ESPN2.

This marks the second consecutive week that the Cadets will be facing a team from Georgia’s highest classification. These two teams have a history, having clashed last year when Buford clinched a narrow one-point victory—a result that still lingers with BC.

“When you’re competing against top-tier teams nationally and lose in such a dramatic fashion with numerous trick plays at the end, it really stings,” said junior running back and slot back Stanley Smart Jr. “I remember crying after that game because it was so emotional. This year, we’re ready for them.”

“I’ve heard that the number of tickets sold is staggering,” Britt remarked. “There’s going to be a mix of attendees, but our supporters will be there in full force, and I believe that will be advantageous for us.”

The game between Buford and Benedictine kicks off Aug. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
