D.C. Councilwoman: DOJ Probing D.C. Crime Stats a 'Distraction', 'Bogus'

During Wednesday’s segment on CNN’s “The Lead,” D.C. City Councilwoman Brooke Pinto (D) remarked that the police chief is currently examining possible inaccuracies in the city’s crime statistics. However, she described the DOJ’s investigation into these numbers as “another distraction.” Pinto emphasized the importance of focusing both local and federal resources on tangible solutions for crime and public safety rather than engaging in “bogus investigations.”

Pinto mentioned that several months ago, the city’s police chief conducted an internal review to verify the accuracy of crime stats. This review uncovered one instance of potential discrepancies, resulting in the involved officer being placed on leave and undergoing further investigation. Pinto expressed her confidence in the data provided by the city’s police department.

Host Phil Mattingly then asked, “Are you supportive of the Justice Department investigation that’s underway into those numbers?”

When questioned, Pinto responded, “No, I view it as just another distraction. Addressing public safety and governmental responsibilities is a serious matter. Our local and federal resources should be directed towards real solutions for crime and public safety. We cannot afford these unfounded investigations or have U.S. attorneys retracting from prosecuting rifle possession. It’s crucial to remove illegal guns from circulation, all firearms, and approach this issue with seriousness.”
