A Florida teenager allegedly admitted to shooting his older brother and dumping his body in a nearby canal — and their mother thinks she knows why.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office has announced that 15-year-old Demetre Fleurimond is the prime suspect in the homicide of his brother, 23-year-old Kevin Dominique. Dominique’s body was found on a Tuesday, and according to Carey Codd, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office speaking to WSVN, Fleurimond admitted to shooting his brother at their shared home with their mother. It’s alleged he then used Dominique’s vehicle to transport and dump the body by a canal.
The car was found in a library parking lot.
The sheriff’s office reported that authorities were alerted to a dead body in a Dania Beach canal around 8 a.m. on Tuesday. An investigation revealed Dominique had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Rapid investigation led the police to interrogate Fleurimond, who allegedly admitted to deliberately killing his brother at their residence. That night, he reportedly confessed to the crime, was arrested, and charged with first-degree murder using a firearm. He was processed through the state’s Juvenile Assessment Center.
Independent local news source WPLG accessed an arrest report indicating Dominique was last seen alive on Sunday. When Dominique did not appear for work on Monday morning, he was reported missing.
WPLG interviewed Marie Jeanty, mother of both brothers, who suggested a potential reason for Fleurimond’s alleged actions. Jeanty recalled telling WPLG, “Sunday morning, upon returning, I noticed the kitchen tiles were clean. I asked Fleurimond, ‘I know you cleaned, but did Kevin ask you?’ He replied, ‘Yes, Kevin told me to do it.’ I think this angered him.”
Jeanty also mentioned speaking with her younger son following his arrest, where she questioned if Dominique had mistreated him, to which he responded, “no.”
WSVN reported that Fleurimond was scheduled to be in court on Thursday.
