A tragic development has occurred in California, where a missing mother was discovered dead, and her husband has reportedly left the U.S. with their three children, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The Montrose Mountain Search and Rescue team located the body of 33-year-old Sheylla Gutierrez in Angeles National Forest last weekend, as reported by ABC 7.
Authorities believe Jossimar Cabrera, 36, who has a record of domestic abuse accusations against him, has escaped to Peru with their children following Gutierrez’s death.
Gutierrez’s mother, Helga Rocillo, disclosed that Cabrera had a history of domestic violence in Peru, and her daughter intended to press charges against him before she went missing.
Rocillo mentioned, “She told me that Jossimar Cabrera Cornejo had hit and mistreated her, and even slapped my youngest grandchild, who is 3 years old,” according to the Los Angeles Times.
“I called my daughter, but she didn’t answer. I spoke to Josimar on Sunday, and he told me that immigration had taken my daughter.”
Following Gutierrez’s disappearance, Cabrera reportedly provided various versions of her whereabouts. He suggested she might have been detained by ICE, left with another man, or had an accident, as per Gutierrez’s sister.
According to the video KTLA obtained, Cabrera can be seen dragging something large wrapped in a greenish material outside the couple’s home.
The searchers found Gutierrez’s body the next day, wrapped in what appears to be similar to the material seen in the video.
On Tuesday, it is believed that Peruvian authorities detained Cabrera, based on a video KTLA received. Reportedly, Cabrera has been released pending official charges being filed.
An autopsy is being performed and will hopefully be released shortly to determine Gutierrez’s official cause of death.
