LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a 51-year-old man from Astatula lost his life in a single-vehicle accident early Sunday near Umatilla.

The crash occurred around 1:17 a.m. on County Road 450, near Babb Road, troopers said.

As detailed in the FHP crash report, he was operating a 2000 Ford F-150 traveling west on C.R. 450 approaching Babb Road when he failed to handle a curve, subsequently veering off the road and into the trees.

The truck began rotating and its right side struck a tree, FHP said.

The report indicates the man was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle, leading to his death at the scene.

FHP is still investigating.
