An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of an off-duty police officer in Missouri, 17 years after his death.

According to KSDK, police apprehended Bradon M. Levy, 46, on Saturday for the shooting in 2008 of Demond Taylor, a 34-year-old officer from St. Louis Community College.

The incident occurred on June 20, 2008, when Taylor, dressed in civilian clothing, was allegedly misidentified as a member of a rival gang. He was discovered with several gunshot wounds on the 5000 block of Page Boulevard in north St. Louis.

St. Louis Police Chief Robert Tracy remarked, “He was off duty, not in uniform, when he was killed. Tomorrow, Mr. Taylor would have marked his 52nd birthday.”

Authorities mentioned that a third eyewitness provided crucial information leading to Levy’s arrest. The witness approached police last month, and combined with details from two witnesses from 2018, this led to the arrest on Friday.

During a news conference on Saturday, St. Louis Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore declared, “These charges heavily rely on eyewitness accounts from the scene,” as reported by FOX 2 Now.

This is still an open investigation, with other possible suspects involved.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the SLMPD Homicide Division. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (866) 371-TIPS.
